Remove vs. Uninstall?
Per a previous, recent thread I posted--there were 2 suggestions to correct an Excel Office 10/Win7 problem--repair, if not, reinstall.
The repair didn't resolve the problem. Thus I did the following: 1. Program and features 2. highlight Office 10--Change 3. Add/Remove features 4. Do not Run (Excel) 5. Booted 6. 1, 2, 3 7. (Excel) Run all from computer Is this sufficient to rewrite the Excel code to the drive or must I actually Uninstall the entire Office program starting from scratch to obtain freshly written (to the drive) Excel application code? Thanks, Mark |

Mark,
If you have the resources and the capability to re-install from the source that is always best. I find that if there is an issue with office that the detect and repair wont fix a re-installation is the best bet. Now if you don't have the resources, i.e. a setup cd then we might need to look into this further. |

I have the original installation media but if I'm not mistaken the uninstall from Windows is not selective. You have to uninstall all of the Office suite at one time which includes Outlook which means that not only do you lose all your Word and Excel settings (Save Settings no longer offered) but you then have to re-setup Outlook mail. The effort PITA is not worth dealing with the glitches!

have you tried running the detect and repair under the help menu in Excel? Ive been able to fix a number of things using that. Sometimes it asks for the disk but we already clarified that you have that.

The only repair that I've found is associated with Programs and Features in Control Panel--
In 2010, click on Help in the left panel under the File tab I see no reference to 'detect and repair' Mark |

Sorry about that. Looks like it was changed to diagnostics after 2003. This looks like the path for 2007.
Excel Click the Microsoft Office Button image, and then click Excel Options. Click Resources. Click Diagnose, click Continue, and then click Start Diagnostics. I also found this for 2010 version which may be the same as the 2007 version Windows 7 Click Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features. Click the Office program you want to repair, and then click Change. Do one of the following: In Office 2010, click Repair > Continue. In Office 2013, click either Quick Repair or Online Repair. You might need to restart your computer after the repair is complete. Let us know if this helps. |

Initially you all suggested either the Programs and Features option (the one you just suggested) or a reinstall. I previously tried the former with no success.
As mentioned earlier, I've decided just to live with the annoyance vs. having to reinstall ALL of Office (a reinstall of just Excel not being a program option). Thanks, Mark |

Sorry to hear that it wasnt a perfect solution Mark. I thought the diagnostics would have worked.
