Default formula writing for extracting data

Hi,

I have data extracted and pasted into sheet 2 and 3. On sheet 1, I want to take certain information from sheet 2 and 3 and automatically populate it into sheet 1. However the data in sheet 2 and 3 wil change cells. Is this possible? i.e match a particular work between sheet 1 and 2 and return the result in the cell next to it.

For Example sheet 2 has data

cell a1 cell a2

Name sarah

can i match name in sheet 1 with name in sheet 2 and popular the work sarah

You can use Excel's LOOKUP/VLOOKUP/HLOOKUP functions, or a combined INDEX&MATCH function. The attached demo shows how you can use the latter. Simply input any of the ID's found on Sheet1 into A2 on Sheet2 and the names in columns B & C there will be updated.
