Excel 2010 changing external link formulas automatically on Webdav mapped drive
Hi Pls can someone help me. Using Excel 2010 and have multiple workbooks with formulas referencing each other. The data is stored on a webdav(http) mapped drive and is visible on the PC as L:
Example of the formula in the workbook: ='L:\2013\Daily figures\A\[10-October.xlsx]1'!$D$9 Drive is mapped as such: L:\ mapped to http://www.drivehq.com/webdav/expressfinance When opening the spreadsheet at times the formula changes by itself to: ='http://www.drivehq.com/2013/Daily figures/A/[10-October.xlsx]1'!$D$9 The source document is located on L: so this works but when it changes to the http formula by itself is obviously inaccessible. I even edit the formulas and change it back to L:\..... then Excel just puts back the http: into the formula. Pls does anyone know why? |

Dirkswart, I've never referred to an external workbook that's on a drive mapped to a web URL—I didn't even know it's possible—so I've been watching this space expecting that when someone else answered your question, I'd probably learn something new. But so far no one else has responded, which usually means no one else knows either. So I'll offer a guess:
When I'm creating external references, that is, references to other workbooks, as I said they're not on the web; they're always somewhere on my hard drive, or at most on a Sharepoint drive. But I have noticed that the external reference looks like this: Code:
='C:\path\[filename.xls]SheetName'!A3 Code:
SheetName!A3 I don't really have much hope for that, so here's a second question: After Excel changes the look of the reference, does the reference still work? |

Nah, it changes it without any external workbooks open.
I once changed then back manually, only to find later that when opened, it just changed it straight back again. It has something to do with the location of the source. It's somehow picking up that it's on a webdav mapped drive and changing the formula incorrectly. Though it was something that one can turn off! |
