Save As (accidentally renamed first file)
Can a file that has been overwritten in a Microsoft Office program can be recovered? For example, if I had an excel document named File.xls and I actually save a new file as File.xls (same name) could I retrieve the first file? I would like to mention that Windows Backup is turned off. So I cannot restore to an earlier date.

Matthew, Welcome to the board.
Depending on your version of Excel, go to file open, and see recent files (to the right). Look through the list to see if your file name is still there. If so, click on it; that may work. Otherwise, go to My Documents, and see if it still resides there. The number of recent files to be seen can be changed also. HTHY, Gary Last edited by Gary Drumm; 07-22-2013 at 01:01 PM. Reason: typo
