Hi Tony,

Thank you for your timely response to my first thread/post in this forum.

I am not using VBA. This is a much more simple application than that. I'll upload my .xls file, if I can figure out how.

Strike one for the wizard. I had to download the WinZip program, first, but you should have a copy of my amateurish attempt at creating an .xls file. It's what I get for volunteering.

You will note that the third sheet named WCG is where the imported data is stored. There is a lastweek's sheet which is just a text copy of last week's Stat Report. Then, there is the thisweek's sheet where the logic retrieves the data from the other two sheets to create the new week's Stat Report.

A lot of this is accomplished manually. I am trying to learn enough to make it a little more automatic. This attempt to retrieve the website data is my first attempt to do just that.

Sincerely,
Gandalf

Hi
Now I understand what you are trying to achieve (I think ).
If you are trying to automate the import process then have you tried recording a macro whilst you do the manual process. You can then use the macro for future imports and make it automatic.
Is this what you want?

That doesn't tell me why what is happening is happening, but it does give me a new direction to try. While I've never done it before, it's worth giving it a try. I'll let you know how it works, once I figure out how to do it.

Thanks

Tony,

When I manually try to perform a Web Query, the unrequested data is still imported.
1. Create an .xls file.
2. Place the cursor at cell A1.
3. Select Data > Import External Data > New Web Query...
4. Address: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/te...rdsPerPage=100
5. Click on Arrow associated with Member Name.
6. Click on Import button.
7. Click on OK button.

The following is imported:

This is NOT what was selected for import.
Rather the site is defined as secure or not the same data is imported.

If the manual technique is flawed, the macro will also be flawed. Also, I believe a shortcut key is needed to run the macro, but on this point I am not real sure, since I didn't get that far in my trial run.

I just received an answer from the xtremesystems.org forum.
The information is very interesting.

As posted on the xtremesystems.org forum, I have queried the WCG forum for their feedback. Fingers crossed.

I have been informed by xtremesystems that my Web Query issue does not appear in the 2010 version of Microsoft Excel.

I wonder, is there a 2003 patch for this problem or did they simply put the fix into subsequent versions of Excel? As far as I know, I have all the upgrades/patches for my Microsoft Office 2003.
