Default Excel 2013 Record Macro greyed out

Moved work book from Office 2010 to Office 2013. Macros do not run and unable to record new macros as "Record Macro" is greyed out.

Check your macro security setting, under Developer|Macro Security. It should be set to 'Disable all macros with notification" or 'Disable all macros except digitally signed macros".

Thanks Paul, tried both without any luck. Strange thing is my 2013 Word is set as you describe and Macros work fine, just not in Excel which has them greyed out.

Do you have any 3rd-party addins running? See under File|Options|Addins.

I did have Adobe PDF maker running. I disabled it but still no joy.

Thanks again for the suggestions.

I assume that the recorder is greyed out all of the time and not for a specific workbook.

I wonder if some required installation options were unchecked when you installed Office 2013? I'd be surprised if this is the case because you said that the macro recorder is OK in MS Word 2013, but it's still worth a look. Re-insert the installation disc, choose Add or Remove Features and ensure that Visual Basic for Applications and Digital Certificate for VBA projects under the Office Shared Features are installed.

Colin, your suggestion got me on the right track. With Office 2013 installation was a download of a set up program. I reran the set up program and now all is well!! :-)

Thanks for your time on this.

Have a great weekend,

Byron

Three years on and this last option worked. Oddly those features showed as installed already, but attempting to install them again fixed it.
