converting mm.s format to mm:ss
Is there a way to convert from decimal format to mm:ss format?

Yes, but we'd need to know exactly what the decimal bit represents. For example, does 1.25 represent 1 minute & 15 seconds, or 1 minute & 25 seconds.

Hi
Decimal minutes & seconds to mm:ss = Decimal/1440 & Format the cells as [m]:ss |

Kevin,
Your answer pre-supposes that the decimal part is a fraction of a minute, which may or may not be the case. Works fine if 1.25 represents 1 minute & 15 seconds, but not if it represents 1 minute & 25 seconds. That's why I asked the question.

I am assuming the OP requires it as Minutes/Seconds , as they have asked for mm:ss

I know that's what you're assuming.
If the assumption is wrong, the OP needs something like: =(INT(A1)+MOD(A1,1)/0.6)/1440 where the decimal time is in A1.

Hi
Is that formula not incorrect. If I input 17.25 in A1 and format cells mm:ss it returns 17:25 instead of 17:15. |

As I said, if the .25 represents 25 seconds and not 0.25 minutes, a different approach than what you suggested is required. That's what I've posted.

Perhaps i might be a bit ignorant, but please do explain! So you assume that .25 might be 25 seconds, how many seconds make up your minute. 100!

A hexagesimal format minute has a maximum of 59 seconds (just like an ordinary minute), so the largest fractional seconds value you'd see in a mm.ss expression is .59. In a decimal format such as you assumed, though, it can go up to .99.
The advantage of the hexagesimal format is that there is a 1:1 relationship between the fractional and actual seconds value. With a decimal format, only one-third of the seconds can be expressed exactly with a fixed number of decimal places.

thanks all. I always learn more than I ask for in tgis forum. Just for the record, I meant 1 minute and 15 seconds, when I said 1.25.
