Default File size massively increases after saving

Hello,

In a nutshell; after copying a filtered subset of data to a new file the new file is over 5x greater in size. Any ideas why this might be happening?

In detail: Master file (12Mb) contains approx. 18k+ rows and 43 columns of data (no formulas). A Filter is applied to isolate a much smaller dataset.

Then, copy/paste entire worksheet by right-clicking on Row-Column header (top left of worksheet) and paste special (ALL) to a new worksheet or workbook.

When saved the new file is now 71Mb

I have a work around, but it's tedious (save as 2003 version then 'convert' back to 2010 - but this takes a long time) and would like to understand what might be happening and to maybe find a way of preventing the issue occuring in the first place.

many thanks in advance!
