Gridlines do not print?
Office '07
When 'print gridlines' is specified and they do not print is the problem only printer related or could there be another reason? Mark |
Hi Mark,
The gridline colour might be an issue. |
I changed the page setting to Black and White. I then selected the entire sheet and changed border properties from automatic to black. Still no go.
Thanks for the try. Mark |
Hi Mark,
Under Page Layout|Page Setup|Sheet, ensure the 'Print Gridlines' option is checked. |
That was the first thing I checked--
I had this problem previously when we had 2 printers at home, an older HP laser and a newer Desk-jet. The laser just did not want to print gridlines. I have trouble believing the problem is now with a new Cannon inkjet but absent any further suggestions I'll check with their support people. As usual, thanks-- Mark |
Hi Mark,
That option shouldn't affect borders anyway. I thought it might be worth a try, though. I suspect it is a printer driver issue. Try saving to PDF and, if you have a PDF 'ptinter driver' installed, try 'printing' to PDF. If the borders show in both cases, it's definitely a printer driver issue. |
Printed to pdf--no borders (goofed on this one, corrected on next)

Printed to pdf--no gridlines
|
I'm confused - do borders print to PDF or do they not?
|
Sorry--we've always been discussing gridlines not printing and that continues to be the case with the pdf test. I mistakenly typed borders (from a previous post) instead of gridlines. It appears according to the pdf that the lack of gridlines printing to the Cannon is a function of something in the Excel setup.
I have a thought. I am loading a template (or at least that's what I call it) that has some saved settings such as footer information. I'd like to try loading a clean, new, blank spreadsheet. When I select New, how do I load such a sheet vs. that which wants to auto load with the settings? |
Gridline not printing
Hi Mark
If there is nothing confidential in the file can you message me a copy to otpm@blueyonder.co.uk and I will happily take a look. TonyK |
Thanks for the offer Tony. I was about to insert the file and decided to do one final check.
I noticed that Draft Quality was checked. I unchecked it and the gridlines printed. Thanks ;-) Mark |
I finally managed to print grid lines by going to Page Layout/Sheet Options and ticking "Black & White". If I thought of doing this, it's thanks to having read this thread.
