Default Formula that references cell with text in different workbook

I know the formula =SUM('[3072 Wedding Fund.xls]Sheet1'!$M$3)in workbook A will retrieve the cell contents of M3 in workbook Wedding Fund.xls. The cell contents in M3 are numeric.

I would also like to retrieve contents from a different cell in the same workbook Wedding Fund.xls. The content is text. I used the same formula above but the results was the forumula in the requesting workbook.

What is the formula to retrieve a specific cell contents which is text from a different workbook?

Thanks
