Default Share Excel Add-In In A Network Environment?

I have a micro that manipulate a range of data from $A1 to $P180 and it is working fine. The macro process the data and generate different PivotTables.

The data in this rang ($A1 to $P180) is vary based on the person who will download it. For example, when an employee from medical department download this data, he will got data related to medical while an employee from purchasing Dept will download his Dept related data only.

How can I send this macro to our users where they can use it over any data they will download from our main SAP system.

All Departments data that all our users can download from the server are located in the same range ($A1 to $P180) but the problem is that the SAP system downloads it in XLs file under different sheet name. it is something like (SAP23987download).

Your assistance is highly appreciated. Thank you.

If the macro needs to be available for any workbook they have open then you have two main choices. You can either get them to put it in their personal.xls or you can distribute it as an add-in. The add-in would be the better choice here but it would also come with a fairly significant learning curve.

I highly appreciate your great support. I spent hours trying to complete the add-in issue but without success and I need your help.

My Macro3 is located in Microsoft Excel Macro-Enabled Worksheet (New3.xlsm). I have re-saved this file as “Excel Add-in” and not as "Excel 97-2003 Add-in".

By default, the file was saved under D:\Users\myaccount\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\AddIn s.

Then, in this new Microsoft Excel Add-In (New3.xlam) file, I have customized the Ribbon tool bar and created a new group under data and linked this new group with the Macro3 which I found it in the Macro list (in the left side).

Now, when I opened the original New3.xlsm file (Macro-Enabled Worksheet), I found Macro3 sign appear in the new data group that I have created in the Add-in file.

The Macro3 sign in the New3.xlsm work fine even after I removed the Macro3 from it.

The problem is when I sent this file to 3 of our users (as a test) and the Macro setting was enabled on their BCs; it did not work where they could not see the macro sign.

Hi,

Do they have the New3.xlam add-in installed?
Is your intention to have it installed on each user's desktop or to have it saved communally in a shared network folder?

The answer is: To have it saved communally in a shared network folder.

Okay, so
  • First you need to save the add-in into the shared network folder.
  • Then I suggest you right click > properties and make the file read-only. This means that if you want to make an update to the add-in later on, it will not be locked by your colleagues.
  • Once the file is saved your colleagues need to open Excel > Office button > addins > Manage Excel-Addins > GO > Browse
  • In the pop-up window they then need to browse to the shared network folder and double click on the addin.
  • They will get a prompt asking them if they want to copy the add-in to their local AddIns folder. They should choose NO. If they choose YES then it would mean that future updates would be more difficult to give to them because their version of the add-in would be saved locally.
  • Once they click on OK your add-in and its macros should be available to them (it should be ticked in their add-in list).
