Excel stopped working.
I am running Office 2000 on 64 bit windows 7 Home Premium which came on my Dell 560ST desktop which I purchased on 7/1/2011.
For the past few months, while using Excel, I get a pop-up window "Microsoft Excel for Windows has stopped working", the only option is to close program, then I get "Microsoft will let me know what the problem is. I have removed and reinstalled Office at least 5 times but always get the same pop-up with the same results. Most of the time if I hit save after I perform a function it will save my work, but sometimes the pop-up comes up while I am performing a function. I am retired and don't use Excel very often, but when I do I really get frustrated. I copied all my Excel worksheets to my 32 bit Windows laptop and so far have not had any problems. I tried downloading the SP's for Office but I get a notice that the SP's are not acceptable. For the little time I use Office I can't afford to purchase the newer Office software. Is the 64 bit Windows 7 causing me the problem? |

Don't know about Office 2000 ( probably not supported any more?) and Win7 64b, but if you do not use it often, you could download Openoffice - It's free and works OK if no macros are involved - Also compatible with XL

Thanks Percoflyer for the Open Office suggestion. I downloaded it a couple of times and could not get it to load, even after removing Office and restarting, I don't have much luck with this wizardry, has to be old age.

I know the feeling, will be 62 in a couple of days.
The files to download are located at http://www.openoffice.org/ - Nothing special to do, and has nothing to do with MS Office

Dear Nodsirrah....THANK YOU for response.
I am going crazy first it was Word and today Excel. I need these programs to help my husband with his business. Did you find solution in one of these forums? I searched the internet, microsoft, and now did some things suggested but not fixing. The only thing I found was a recent change where a security update was pushed to my computer from microsoft on the 11th so thinking to delete that but don't know. I was happy to see you solved your problem but sad that you can't remember how. |

Try to make use of the Open and Repair utility. But if it fails, then in this case make use of Microsoft Office Tool. This will help you to fix the Excel issues.

@lorein
Hello this thread is 5 years old. Chances are the problem has been solved one way or another...
