Default Properties of a Cell

Hello,

I figured if you copied a cell, the properties of that cell would follow. The information would too but you can edit that. No cell merging either. The only formatting I've done is to stretch out the four columns so that they cover the screen with column D being the widest.

Here's the setup:
2 rows - four columns
column A - 1 line, centered both ways, bolded
column B - 2 lines, underscored, centered vertically
column C - 1 line, centered both ways
column D - word wrap on but using Alt+Enter to create each line, bottom
row 1 - 4 lines
row 2 - 3 lines
I copied 1D to 2D and edited 2D.

What I'm seeing is that 2D seems to have a blank line/row (well it looks like an extra line/row) regardless if I change Bottom to Top or Centered or turn off Word Wrap.

If I type Line 1, Line 2, etc. in four columns in another Sheet and not copying anything, especially cell properties, it comes out right!

I want these cells (1D and 2D) to be snug against their respective lines, above and below, without the extra space. This is what I already see in 1D.

What can I check in 2D (or even one of the other cells)? Something different about word wrap or reaching the end of a column perhaps?

I hope this makes sense. Let me know if you need more info.

Thanks.

An update ...

I found out that using special characters may be causing this. Try these two lines.
Extra context menu item: &Google Search - res://c:\windows\GoogleToolbar1.dll/cmsearch.html
I would like to figure this out

Removing the ampersand (&) or both slashes (//) puts the cell as I would like to see it.

So are these characters preventing this or is it still something else?

Thanks.
