Default Function Finder

Good day all!

Well, to my own embarassment, I prefessed myself as a self taught Excel Expert! Until I met the Function Option!!

I've browsed a number of forums however have not been able to find something that will really work for me, I've also searched the Function List and didn't see anything that might work for me.

So! I'm trying to do up a diet plan for my wife, for example.

If an Apple = 1 serving of Fruit and there are 2 Fruit Servings available in a day

What I'm trying to do is, if I choose Apple from the dropdown box I made, it will count as that 1 serving and remove 1 serving from the 2 available in the day(sheet)... I wish I could explain better!

I will keep perusing the Function lists in the mean time

You can try something like this:
IF(COUNTIF(A1:A20;"Apple")>2;"You already had two apples today";COUNTIF(A1:A20;"Apple"))

The best approach depends on how is your data organized, for example, if fruit serving 2 times a day includes many types of fruits, you have to put all the fruits in a table, so , when serving a fruit, any fruit, the formula will lookup in that table ....
If you post a sample, then you will get better answers, without seeing the data structure, i can only guess.
