Default Excel compatibility doesn't work

Hello,

My users are on excel 2003 and I use the Microsoft Compatibility pack to open the xlsx.
I have download it (the latest version) at :
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=3

For months, at the company, we received xlsx files that excel couldn't open. But the trouble appears just for some xlsx files. Others xlsx files works good with the compatibility pack.

I think, but it's just an opinion without argument, that the files that i can't open are create with excel 2010. I can't verify because I don't know the people who send this kind of files to my users.

Did you have this kind of trouble ? Have you got a solution ?

Try:
open Excel 2003 first and then choose File, Open, choose to open the Excel 2007 file,
or just convert online the file (if it's not a large number of files)

When I open in Excel, I have not the choice for the 2007 version.
An other test : I have open the file with Excel 2002 and all works good.
But when I try to open some others files in 2002, I can't but with 2003 it's OK.
And it's the same for all PC in my company.

When you cannot open a file, what happens? Any error message ? And if so, which message is it?

BTW I think Catalin meant to open the offending xlsx file from within an open 2003 instance.
You can choose " all files" in the " open" window dropdown, so you can see the xlsx files

Of course since the beginning, I try to open the file with "all files".
But as I said in the first post, it isn't possible.

The error message is something like "the converter can not opens this file"

Hi microhard,

Did you actually install the converter, or did you only download it?
