Default Excel 2010 Format cells to use as Gantt or Plan

Hello,

I've just joined this forum today. Hoping someone can guide me with a formatting challenge please.

I'm using Excel 2010 as a planning tool (I use MSP but my team don't have access to it so I need them to complete an xls which I will then upload into MSP). They like the template and now want to use their individual plans like a Gantt. I'd like to set a conditional format that recognises the start and end dates and colours the appropriate cells. Ideally I'd like to do this without having to put a formula in every cell - is there a way I can do this using conditional formatting that anyone knows?

It's been a couple of years since I last had to get my head around formulas so I may be way off track here.

I've attached a basic version of what I'm trying to develop - thanks for any ideas people
