Know of any Excel VBA or Excel functions that can help with general lottery forecasting?
Permission to post, admins...
Since this group doesn't have any search function, I have no way of telling if the topic of my post has already been made before. I am only concerned with general, simple lottery forecasting concerns. So, I'm wondering if anyone here knows some VBA formulas or Excel functions for the following tasks: a) Counting the frequency of each number in a lottery game b) Determine which are "hot" numbers, "cold" numbers and "overdue" numbers within a certain draw period in a lottery game c) Know how many times a number is paired with another number Hope you would consider helping me out in this... |

If I toss a coin 100 times and each time it turn up heads, the chance of it turning up tails on the 101st toss is still 1 in 2. In fact, faced with such statistics, I'd bet on the 101st toss being heads again because it looks likely the coin is heads on both sides or there's some other bias causing it to land showing heads. But this is no longer random. The chances of a lottery not being random should be zero. |

So, does that mean no Excel function can do anything about that?
How user-defined VBA functions? |

If predictions were possible, the Lottery would be out of business Perhaps take a few moments to brush up your theory on probabilities of independent events

While it should be possible (with a bit of work) to produce the statistics you want in (a), (b) and (c), these statistics will not help at all in forecasting a random general lottery. |

If it was not random, then you would make a lot of money if someone made this macro for you. I had thought about doing that sort of thing in the past. The idea for not random would be that as balls get picked more frequently, it is likely that one or more of those would turn up again. Of course if the ball or balls are replaced at some point, the frequency will likely drop or increase. Someone knows how often balls are replaced. My guess is that they replace all balls periodically.
If you want help with that sort of thing, you should make the file with the history of past results and attach that file. I don't know if this forum prohibits this sort of post or not. I have helped people refine random pick5 with powerball. e.g. Quote:

I think that I would trust my random picks over the random picks at the lotto machines. I only get a PB pick when it gets over 200 million. I mean, what can one do with a measly 199 million? |

Hi and welcome
Please,do not crosspost your question on multiple forums without including links here to the other threads on other forums. Cross-posting is when you post the same question in other forums on the web. The last thing you want to do is waste people's time working on an issue you have already resolved elsewhere. We prefer that you not cross-post at all, but if you do (and it's unlikely to go unnoticed), you MUST provide a link (copy the url from the address bar in your browser) to the cross-post. Read this to understand why we ask you to do this, and then please edit your first post to include links to any and all cross-posts in any other forums (not just this site). If you have fewer than 10 posts here, you will not be able to post a link, but you must still tell us where else you have asked the question Do not post any further responses in this thread until a link has been provided to these cross posts.
