Question Help me create a button to generate an ascending sequential reference number on a worksheet

I have no VB skills and this is an urgent query I have.I have a spreadsheet with first column as Request ID, first free row is A2.
I need a button that will generate a number as a reference to a new request in a log/register.
It needs to insert on a new line at the top of the spreadsheet in A2 each time.
Format of Unique Reference needs to be: DSR0000001 then DSR0000002 and so on.

Please can you detail a step-by-step solution (I have no programming skills).
Thanks

Hi, Blue. I'm not surprised no one's responded to this yet; mostly this forum is about helping each other with smaller and more specific question. For example, if you'd written a VBA program to do all that and you were having trouble getting the button to run the program, that would probably get a response. Or if your program were abending at a particular place with a particular message. But starting from nothing and hoping someone can just tell you how to jump ahead to a full solution...nah, that probably isn't going to generate much help.

If you have no VBA skills, it seems to me what you need is to gain some VBA skills. It'll take some time—like taking a class, and learning the principles a piece at a time—but of course the advantage is that before you're through you can write not just this solution but many others as well. Interested in learning how?
