Default Select multiple items from a drop down list

I have a spreadsheet of resources, with the C column identifying the subject area of the particular resource, which is selected via a drop down list.

As some fall into multiple categories I would like to be able to select multiple items from the drop down list, but haven't been able to find a way to do this.
