I'm working on a very basic spreadsheet for my dispatchers so that they can click a hyperlink in a cell that opens a specified folder on our server. I can manually enter the hyperlink each time but this sheet is live and changes throughout the day which requires me to spend most of the day updating it.

What I want to do is set it up so that when one of the planners enters the PRO number (5 digit) into the cell it automatically sets the hyperlink to the folder on the server drive.

I have attached a picture of what I'm trying to do and please keep in mind I'm an operations manager not a computer programmer.

Here's a couple of options for you.

Enter 99887 in Sheet 1 B5 and it will enter a Hyperlink. Click the Hyperlink & it will open the downloads folder on a W10 computer & delete the hyperlink so it's not still there for anyone to click.

Enter 99887 in Sheet 2 B5 for the downloads folder to open on a W10 computer & delete 99887 from B5.

Right click the sheet tabs & select view code to change the FolderPath, ReqTargetCellVal and TargetCell variables to suit your needs.

On your first question, yes I used to fly a PBY-5A Catalina retrofitted as a water bomber for fire fighting. However the username came from flying helicopter tours between Long Beach and Catalina Island about 27 years ago.

I'll try out the link on my W10 machine at home tonight, I was away all weekend and just landed here about an hour ago. My office system is all W7 due to security requirements with my server (some really technical stuff I don't understand from the IT company that maintains my network and servers).

That sounds like a job from heaven.

It should work on W7 & I presume W8 as well. I avoided W8 so have no experience with it.

Like any other job, after a while they just became another job. Nothing I really miss about either one of them and certainly not something I would go back to doing if the opportunity arose. Lack of decent pay and risky work (in no particular order).

I'll let you know how your solution works when I get a chance to try it. I was away for the weekend and now it's going to take me 4 days to catch up on the 2 I missed.
