Exclamation This is a tough one....

I have been impressed with the expertise in this forum before, but I am not sure if what I am asking now is even possible..

What I want is to make a drop-down list where the alternatives is all the filenames in a dropbox folder. The filenames must be updated and this must work regardless of which computer you are on. So the references must be relative (the document is also on dropbox) or it must refer to the shared folder link.

I will be both very amazed and grateful if anyone can help me with this!

Hi,

I do not have a ready answer. But, if you are wanting to update files that are in "DropBox". This may be done through "Cloud". So it does not matter which computer you use all of the request go through "Cloud". Ok, thats my 2 cents.

Use iCloud??

Not sure if I understood what you meant. Dropbox is a cloud service. I want to be able to insert a filename from a drop-domn list, where the alternatives is all the different filenames in a dropbox folder.
Others will also work on this, and they will most likely not have their dropbox folder in the exact same location. So it must not be relying on path in explorer or finder.

Hi,

I guess my 2 cents was only worth 1 cent.

I may still be missing your question. But, you can have a program set up that will use the "IE" to log in to a site. However, this pgm must be on their computer.
You can have a dropdown for the selection of the file you wish to update.
Is this close to what your talking about?

I am sorry, but I do believe the problem is well defined. I know that it is possible to do a web query with excel, and I know that it should be able to access a publicly linked dropbox folder, but I donīt know how to extract the list of filenames nor how to update this list.. I have some knowledge about programming in general, but I donīt have much experience with VBA. I reckon that with some hints I would manage to do it myself. All I know is that excel is capable of doing pretty much everything one can think of

HHI,

Just to let you know I've been trying to find a solution. But, so far am drawing a blank.
Hopefully another member can help.
As a side note I see that you posed this same question on "MrExcel". If you should receive help there let us know.

At least it led me to this AMAZING site, which solved my problem. https://ifttt.com. It stands for "if this, than that" and is a VERY powerful tool. Check it out!
