![]() I have some treasured photos with the old microsoft mix extension. I used to be able to view them with Word on my old computer (Office2000 and w2000). With office2007 and W7, I can't open them and can't find anything that tells me how. I also tried it on a computer with Office 2003 and W7-no go. Is there a way to convert these to jpg or tif or anything useable in modern computers? Any help much appreciated |

Hi
Have you tried right-clicking on a file and choosing "Open With" and selecting MS Word? That may do the trick. Let me know. Good luck. Tony(OTPM) |

NO-doesn't work-tried already, also with Office 2003. It really blows my mind that microsoft would do something like this-just abandon us. It would be so easy for them to at least have an online utility that would do the job.

Hi
Are you able to post one copy of a file with a .MIX extension so I can try a few things out here for you, then I will get back to you. Tony(OTPM) |

Thanks for offer, but I tried to attach (per instructions using "post reply", not "quick reply"). I get some error message about invalid etc. It is incomprehensible to me that microsoft would just leave something like picture files unobtainable to people who bought the product in good faith.

The error code wasn't for size, but for file type, but I didn't think of zip to "fool " it. Here are two pictures zipped. I much appreciate your efforts.

Hi
I have managed to find an application that opens .mix files. Follow the link below to download a trial edition to test: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en...ang=en&id=4357 The application is called "Microsoft Digital Image Starter Edition 2006 Editor". I have downloaded and tested it and it works for me. Good luck. Tony(OTPM) |

Tony-This is so great that I don't know how to express my thanks-IT WORKS! If you are ever in SF bay area, I owe you a lunch-thanks again.
I still can't comprehend that Msoft would allow this situation to continue. |

Hi
Many thanks for your kind words. As for the offer of lunch I actually live in England so meeting up for lunch would not really be cost effective ![]() The fact that I was able to provide you with a workable solution is thanks enough. I myself get a lot of help from this forum so the least I can do is try and help others in return. Take care. Tony(OTPM) |

My new laptop already had Windows 10 installed (64bit). I have MS Office 2010 which I installed myself. I had no luck with the suggestions to use WORD - (insert .mix picture & save the doc as a web page . . .). I owned a 10+ yr old copy of Picture It!, which according to internet was not compatible. I have MANY .mix pictures. I closed all programs, inserted the 'install' disk for Picture It! and it did install. However I MUST right click on the program icon and select RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR or it doesn't work. I then select "get picture" - select the folder the .mix pics are in - right click on the pic I want to change (this must be done 1 pic at a time) - open it - click on "save & send" - click on "save as" - use the drop down menu to select the file extension you want (jpg, bmp . . .) and select the folder you want it saved to. Hope this helps.
