Need to make sure all images are 300+ dpi in word document
I can't seem to find any way of finding out the DPI of images in my word document. They vary greatly and I need to re-insert all images at 300 dpi or higher (the PDF writer will down-sample to 300 if higher). I figure I can do it manually if I copy an image where I know the pixel dimensions (say 600 pixels wide) and work out the maximum size in the document (ie 2 inches wide), and then paste it into the document at no larger than this calculated size. Will this method ensure all images will retain their quality ? Or will word mess about with the resolution internally ? Please help... I have a document with over 500 images I need to fix. |

Just FYI - This seems to be working.
The only caveat is that word is retarded. For example, if I have an image that is 600 pixels wide, I calculate that it needs to be 2 inches wide in the document. I paste it in, set the width to 2 inches and word auto-adjusts the percentage from 100% to 37% ok great! I can just set all images to 37% or less right ? NOOOOOOO Because the next time I insert an image and calculate and set the size, word decides on a totally different percentage, so I have to do it manually every single @#^@&#^ time. 500+ images. Sheesh. Where are you getting your numbers from Word? Is there just a random number generator in there? Come on. WTF? |

Hi Ralph,
There are many things that could be affecting this, including data stored in the image file that says what resolution it should be rendered at. You can't blame Word if that's inappropriate.

The office suite has been magnificent ever since I came across office '97. I'm not crazy tho, there is an inconsistency there. It seems to depend on some random factor such as the amount of zoom of the word document at the time. For example, i pasted a bunch of images into a section, worked out the size to be at least 300 DPI, and they came up as 37% for all of them. The day after, I realized they needed to be greyscale, so I did that, and pasted them in in exactly the same way, but now they are at 32%. Same images. Same resolution. Same print size. Anyway, no matter. All good |
