Hi,

IM trying to merge a letterhead from a shared drive, this part is fine as the image pulls through using the include picture function in word or by manually adding the code.

however, as noted on a previous thread the image comes through as 'in line with text' by default, when i try and change this by amending the image to behind text, chaos starts...

I noted that it was mentioned to add it as a floating image so it can be resized to fit the whole page and sit behind the text....but how do i do this or what's the alternative to add the A4 letterhead in the header and sit behind the the text in the document.

the idea is so that when the company letterhead is updated i can amend the one stored image rather than manually amending 100's of word documents....

thanks

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, mods please move.

Are you using Mail Merge for this? If so. why?
You can use an IncludePicture or IncludeText field. See, though, Word Fields and Relative Paths to External Files.

I do not think you are in the wrong forum.

Why are you trying to use a full-page graphic for a letterhead?

And why are you using INCLUDEPICTURE instead of simply inserting the graphic in the page header and positioning it appropriately?

Thanks for both the replies.

I tried the include picture function in FIELDS but as the picture comes into the document as 'in line with text' you cant position it as you would like, if you change from 'in line with text' to 'behind text' the code/field disappears.

Please see something GMAYOR posted previously.

"Are you trying to merge the SAME picture into each document, or a different picture for each record? Surely a letterhead would have the same picture, in which case insert the picture into the merge document you are using for the merge, and position it as required before running the merge.

For merging graphics see Mail merge graphics and Mail Merge Graphics Add-in

As for the mechanics of inserting a picture, you should note that pictures are, by default, inserted in line with text, which means they will shrink (but never grow) to the width between the current margins. If you want the image to fill the width of the page beyond the margins, then it must be inserted as a 'floating' image, whereupon it can be positioned and resized as required or use a (negative) indents to set the current margins at the edge of the paper.

You can insert a single page PDF as an object (probably better to insert it in the header/footer) and set its wrap option to 'behind text'."

Also, the reason we are using a full page graphic is we have information in both the footer, header and side of the page, we have hundreds of documents and regularly update our letterhead so this would save us manually amending 100's and 100's of docs.

In that case, you would do far better to employ three objects - one each for the top side in the header and another in the footer. For suitable code, see:
https://www.msofficeforums.com/word-...ple-files.html
and especially post #2 in that thread.

Leaving that aside, You need to be very careful about changing headers, footers, etc., in any documents that have been issued to clients, etc. Doing so can destroy their evidentiary value in legal disputes.
