Default Random Image Compression on Word 2019 Mac OS X

Hi, have been having an issue on a document into which I've dragged in images from a high-res PDF (just using copy+paste). I've found that when im editing it they look fine, maintain high resolution, and perfectly editable within the Word document. But when I close and reopen the document or email the document to someone else the photos become compressed, low resolution versions of themselves. I've made sure that I'm allowing for highest resolution pictures in the doc and have no "reduce file size" settings on. I've found that when I export it as pdf is all remains high def which is good, but I dont understand why the Word doc can't do the same.

Don't know if this is a dumb question or not, I did a little googling and couldnt find any relevant answers. Would really appreciate some help, thanks!
