Default Wandering captions

In the Word document I'm revising, some captions stay still under the pictures they describe. Other captions move up or down when the computer re-paginates the document. To anchor them, should I put each caption into a one-row, one-column table? If not, what would you suggest instead?

The simplest solution - which MS should have implemented, IMHO - is to insert the image and caption in-line in a table (which you can apply text wrapping to) and to not allow the row/table to break across pages. For a macro to do that, see: https://www.msofficeforums.com/word-...html#post58886
Since you want the caption above the image, see also: https://www.msofficeforums.com/word-...html#post62610 (post #7 in the same thread).

Just a thought … but outside Word I work with a :fig_column style for the paragraph where the graphic is linked or inserted, keep with next, and a :figcap style for the caption.

A tutor taught me how to anchor the captions by grouping them with their pictures. So now the pictures float with them. Thanks, folks.

Everyone, now my computer is repeating a caption in a table of figures when that caption appears only once on the page where I inserted it in a table. So I wonder what I did to cause that problem.

Without actually seeing the problem document, it can be difficult for anyone to diagnose the issue. Can you attach a document to a post with some representative data (delete anything sensitive)? You do this via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.

Strangely, I found extra captions behind the figures when I moved them. So deleting the extra captions solved the problem. Thank you, Macro. I've almost finished revising the document you've helped me correct.
