Default Text box background MUST be white?

I use Microsoft Works Word Processor for Vista and I am trying to insert a transparent text box onto an imported image. The image has already been formatted to be behind the text box with Square wrapping. My problem is that when I go to Format > Borders and Shading, I find this:





How can this problem be solved?
