Go to File|Options|Advanced and change the 'Insert/paste pictures as:' option to 'Square'. The actual positioning is governed by where the insertion point happens to be at the time. When it comes to the insertion of multiple pictures with the same/similar dimensions, see https://www.msofficeforums.com/word-...html#post47919 for a possible solution
