Alt text is missing in the Layout & Properties (Format Picture)
Hi
I use office 365 and I noticed that the alt text is missing in Layout & Properties (Format Picture). I need to use the alt text to add the title (alt text) into the picture in Word 2016, but it is not available in this pane (Format Picture). I can use the right-click menu (Edit Alt Text), but in this case, I can only add the description (alt text), but not the title (alt text), which is required to finish one of my exercises. Windows 7 Microsoft Office 365 (2016) Internet Explorer 11 How can I activate alt text in Layout & Properties (Format Picture)? Is there any other way to add the title to pictures. I do not have this issue with tables. Can you help me? Grzegorz Budny |

Word 2010 seems to be the last version that supported adding a title to the description. Not even saving in *.doc format brings back the older interface, as far as I can tell.

This issue only started after build 1803.
I've confirmed it with MS but they're giving me the run around on if it was intentional or not. I was told to post on https://office365.uservoice.com/ but that's for enhancements. I'm pushing them to get a definitive answer. Office 365 build 1803 still had this. All builds after that do not. I've gotten someone from MS Office Support to confirm it but I haven't gotten any help on either getting it restored or an answer on why it was removed. |

Research done by MS and the accessibility community found that a single description field, without a title field, is easier and less confusing for both the author and screen reader users consuming the content. Accordingly, MS changed the interface to enable people to author accessible documents, and enable people to understand documents they're consuming using the accessible technology of their choice.
Accordingly, I don't see MS reverting to the former setup. That said, you could lobby for a change on uservoice which is not solely for enhancements as you claim.

Thanks for the reply.
I don't see them changing it back either. I saw other posts referencing it on accessibility websites so I had a suspicion it was done on purpose but it would be nice if MS Office Support could confirm it. They were clueless even after escalating it to higher levels. |
