Default formatting photos within text boxes

After inserting a photo into a text box, all of the photo formatting options grey out, including (maddingly) the Wrap Text options. The only thing that seems to work is the main menu Justifications which can be used to center the photo. Is there any way around this, i.e. to change the way text wraps around the photos within the text box?

Word is not a drawing program, but rather a word processing program with rudimentary drawing features.

What you want is not in later versions of Word, either.

Question: Why are you using a 64-bit version of Word. There are no advantages and can be a number of disadvantages.

Yes but... photos within text boxes are not a particularly advanced 'ask' of a modern word processing program. I do take your point though, which is "there is no way to do what you want". I will try placing a second text box within the first and then place the photo within that, and see if it makes it possible, otherwise I will give up.

Thanks for your response.

Try inserting your photos into single-cell tables instead.

The second text box works - am able to use position and text-wrap options - but the one-cell table has the same limitations as an inserted photo.
