Default Embedding image in Word 365

I'm using Office 365 Word. When I create a document and insert an .jpg image (a screenshot) the options are insert, link to file, and insert & link. If chose the default, Insert, and save the file, it creates a subfolder of the folder I save to and puts the images in it.. image001.jpg, image001.jpg, etc. To me, that means it's inserting a LINK to the image, not the image itself. The problem is when I upload the html file to a website it opens with just an icon meaning it can't find the linked file.

I recall having gone through this with earlier versions of Word, and finding a way to force Word to actually embed the file. So far, I've not been able to figure out how to do this with 365.

Any suggestions?

TIA,

Ed

The options of inserting/linking apply to documents saved in the traditional Word formats (doc, docx etc).

HTML is a completely different beast and if a html document contains graphics, those are ALWAYS stored as links. It is not possible to embed jpgs, tifs, pngs in the html file itself. Usually, if people create html pages they need to upload the html AND associated graphics, css etc with the same relative paths. This means you also need to upload the folder and its contents to the same location.

By the way, Word is a very poor tool to create html documents since it creates massive amounts of background code which makes files very complicated.

Thanks, Andrew. What would you suggest to create a user instructions type document with screenshots in html? I suppose I could do it in Notepad++ or something, but it wouldn't look very nice given my skills in raw html coding. I want something that I can put in a WordPress page that will look good on o PC or a cell/tablet.

There shouldn't be a need to do this in Notepad. WordPress should have a wsyiwyg editor? If not, you should be able to add one via a plug-in if you administer the site.
