I need to place a lot of little graphical numbered indicators on top of a lot of JPG images I have. Is there an easy way to do this? Please see the attached example. At the moment I can't even find a way to replicate the green numbers on the attachment! The final JPGs need to go into a DOCX.

Not too easy in Word...at least, not in my opinion. My suggestion would be to create that type of data in another software such as MSVisio then import the saved .jpeg (or, other format) into your document. I worked with similar data in my working years and had successful end products.

Other posters may offer other/better solutions.

If it's OK to use rectangular boxes for the numbers instead of circles, you could use one of the callout autoshapes; otherwise you could create a generic autoshape circle, which you apply the 'add text' property to, format the paragraph as centred with 0 space before/after, then insert an arrow, which you align with the circle, then group them together. You can then paste the set wherever you need it and add text/numbers to the circle. Being separate objects, you can even make the circle and arrow different colours!

Thanks for your help. I have subsequently found a handy font, Arial Unicode MS. If you go to the Symbol dialog, select the font, and then select the "Enclosed Alphanumerics" subset, then all the numbers and letters in circles are there. For some reason Word 2016 doesn't have this font by default, but it can easily be downloaded...
