Default Wrong Picture Size

Using WORD2000 & XPproSP3.

I create an image in PSP7 which measures 100pixels x 100pixels.

I copy & paste this into WORD and it has a size of 103x103 px.

I INSERT / PICTURE / FROM FILE this into WORD and it has a size of 98x98 px.

They look different sizes on screen, and in PICTURE PROPERTIES they both
register as SCALE=101%.

What is going on?

Surely they should import as 100px?

Just to check, I tried importing the same image to WORDPAD. Simlar, but not exactly the same errors occured.

Another check I ran was to import the same image into IRFANVIEW. It showed up correctly as 100px.

This suggests the error is in WORD.

Is it a fault, a glitch, by design?

Please help.

R.

It could possibly be to do with the dpi of the image!

At the end of the day, if you right-click and choose Properties > Size - you should be able to resize it to the correct size as needed.

Hmm. Thanks for your suggestion Bird_FAT, but I have looked at that already, and it does not seem entirely significant, as the same sort of results occur if one repeats the entire process using an original image created with a different dpi.

I agree, one can change the size using properties, but it's an enormous waste of time if one is importing say 20 images all of identical pixel size, and then have to go through each one fiddling about with the sizes until they all match up again. In my book, it ought to work first time every time.

I agree that it SHOULD, but I have also been working with Word long enough to work out that SHOULD and DOES are two different things! I sometimes find new information that explains some mystery error, but then again, I still find more mysteries than I do solutions.

To make it easier for you though - If you were to make a macro to:

-Search by graphic (Alt+Ctrl+Home and choose 'Browse by Graphic')
-Resize
-Deselect Graphic (move AFTER the graphic)

You could then add a loop in the code to get it to do the same to all the images in the 'Book'?

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not really a macro man, but I appreciate the logic.

Yes, there's a lot of odd things in WORD. I was surprised that this one wasnt more widely documented.

The macro would be easy to create/ edit - just ask here if you want one of us to do it for you! Always pleased to help.

That's really kind. The job in question is now finished, but if the need re-occurs, I've put your reply on file & will get back to you.
