Default Suggestions on how to make an effective table

Guys, I am creating a table but I dont think it looks as effective as it could be

I have tried to use some border, but i am not sure that it has the impact it could have.

with that said I cannot use color or go over the top because it is for a dissertation.

any suggestion is welcome. and also how do I place the table in the center?

Your file shows a very basic table. With that in mind, here is a link from a university that illustrates some steps that should get you going in the right direction:

Hope this helps...

Hover over the upper left-hand side of the table and a "square" will appear. Left-click on the square to highlight the complete table then go to the "Home" ribbon and center the table by clicking on the centering icon under the "Paragraph" section.

With reference to your "impact" request, that will take your interest to try all of the options (lines, borders, text fonts and size, et al) available. The "trial and error" process.
