Thumbs down Converting from Works

I am trying to import a Works 8 .wdb file into Excel 2003. It is an equipment record database for my phone company and has seven columns (name, address, phone#, cable pair, etc.). There are no formulas. I simply cut and pasted from Works to Excel and it worked fine except for one thing. Where I had labels at the top of each column I now have letters (A B C etc.). In Works you could "Sort by" name, address, or any of the labels. In Excel the sort function uses Column letters instead. I'd like to have the labels back. Is that possible?
What I'd really like is something that works like Windows Explorer where you could just sort the data by clicking on the column label.
(1) Can I change the column letters to labels in Excel?
(2) Can someone recommend another app that suits my needs better?

Thanks.
