Default Search assistance

I'm editing a long document where the author slips into present tense incorrectly. Luckily, it happens after he refers to the "applicant" and the "staff." Is there a way to search, using wildcards, to find a word that follows "applicant" that ends in "s"? I've tried a few obvious things, but no luck.

Any help appreciated.
