Default Separating elements of data in a cell

Am familiar with LEFT, RIGHT, MID and Text to Columns, but none seem to answer my need. Here are several example numbers:
S805602
SA7515
SA11-901
SFV72-737-2
SAE4406
My need is to go to the first "number" and retrieve the first 2 "numbers" as these specify location within the plant. As the position of the first number is variable the above formulae do not work.........at least as far as I can determine. Thank you for any assistance.
