WORD is not descriminating between table and figure Captions

I’ve a long MS word doc full of figures and tables. At some point the program (or me I guess) changed all auto captions to figures. If I change one table caption back to ‘tables’ then all (figures and tables) become tables. Is this some sort of link that I can turn off?
