Default Copy excel data

Hello I am trying to copy a spreadsheet from Excel over to my word document. If i select the cells and paste as a spreadsheet object, I end up with entire workbook. How do I copy and paste only the selected cells that contain data, format, formulas etc? The problem I have is when I double click on the data of my document, I can scroll down thru pages of empty cells. I hope I explained it well enough what my issue is. Any help is appreciated.
