Default Word Table internal cell margin?

I have created a simple table within a word document. For some unknown reason the cell seem to have an internal margin - text i enter in the cell starts to wrap about 1/2 way across the cell. I have gone into cell properties and reset margins to 0 and checked "same as" - no change. I have checked to see if maybe there are actually two cells - nope. I have never had this happen before. I am editing a document that I received from a colleague - so I imagine there is some sort of formatting I cannot see or find. I am not working with an existing table though. - (correction from previous post) - there is another recurring table in the document - one row and five columns that appears to line up with where I am having a problem. But my table clearly only has three wider columns and the tables are not connected. Any ideas?
