For shapes and text boxes you can make use of Building Blocks (Insert | Quick Parts would be one example of that), which let you reuse both content and formatting. You create a Building Block by inserting an example object, format it the way you want it, select it, and then create the Building Block.

For tables, you can certainly specify center alignment (for the whole table) in a table style. Alternatively, use a Building Block for the table content and formatting as well.

If your templates are saved in Word's User Templates folder, the easiest way to deal with this is adding the New Document or Template button to the Quick Access Toolbar. It gives access to the traditional New dialog box from older versions of Word.

To learn the exact path to the User Templates folder, look in the File Locations dialog box (click File Locations at File | Options | Advanced).
