Default Cannot log on to regular account using Outlook 2007 due to Microsoft Exchange

Hello. Microsoft exchange wants to log on when I open Outlook 2007 using Vista operating system when I have gmail as my default email. How do I stop this behavior. How do I delete Microsoft Exchange? Here are some details: The problem is that it wants to log on to Microsoft Exchange when I open Outlook 2007. Once I open Outlook, I get the message: "Connecting to Microsoft Exchange--Microsoft Exchange is unavailable". After that I get the message: "Outlook cannot log on. Verfiy you are connected to the network and are using the proper server and mailbox name. The connection to the Microsoft exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action". I try to delete Microsoft Exchange in email accounts but I get the message: "You cannot delete this Outlook data file. Configuration information in the file is being copied to your new default data file. You can delete this file after the information is copied". Please help. Any assistance is appreciated. I need to delete Microsoft Exchange. Thank you
