Paul, I just saw this older post. If the normal style is different in the two documents you would need to copy it in order for the Caption style to be the same in both documents if Caption is based on the normal style.

The Caption style is available for copying in the Organizer in a new document on my computer. (See below)

This may depend on which styles are set to be displayed using Manage Styles and the preferences. However, in my Word 2010 installation, the Caption style is set to be hidden until used.
