I am using Visio 2010; I don't know which version -- its on my computer at work.

I am trying out operations after watching the Lynda.com training course. Having created a new layer and made it active in the layers properties dialogue, I drag a flowchart Process square from the stencil onto my page and check Layer properties again. It shows up in the Flowchart layer but not the new layer. The new layer remains active. I have tried it repeatedly. What am I missing, please?
