Default Equation editor

Some time ago I used the equation editor, it was not very integrated with office but it was written by someone who knew very well the requirment of a people who have to write mathematics documents.

The new equation is sure more beautifull, but with some important lacks.
  • when I open a curly bracket with 2 lines inside I cannot align the lines to left, the are always centered.
    The same with matrix
  • when I insert "/", it is interpreted as a division and equation editor tray to transform my text as a fraction
  • I cannot write a symbol (for example =) writing something over the symbol (I can do something similar with the right arrows or with a predefinited text over the symbol)
These things are usually done writing in mathematics, and I seems impossible that it is not possible with the new equation editor.
Do you know some way to do this things?
