Unhappy Word Find won't move out of footnote

I am currently proof-reading a document, and want to check that a few thousand footnotes tally up with my bibliography at the end of the document.

Word find is making this task almost impossible (or at any rate, excruciatingly time-consuming) because, rather than cycle through the document, the footnotes, and then back to the document again (as every other normal piece of software does), it "get's stuck" at the end of the footnotes and will not return to to the main document.

I have in the past got around this by using Advanced Find and Replace, and manually changing the "Highlight all items found in field" every time it "gets stuck" but this method is incredibly inefficient for the task in hand, which requires constant skipping between the main document and the footnotes.

Is there any way for Word's find function to cycle through the whole document and its footnotes, and then back again, without getting stuck? I know a bit of VBA if that helps.
