Thank you Kimberly, I was thinking about the Hyperlink option but it does not update the destination if I change the master document. Also the destination is a Hyperlink format with the underline, something that may be undesirable. I was thinking along the lines of entering a code which then retrieves the master text and insert into a new document. I just can't remember the name of the function... place...something. Similar to what is used when you do Mail Merge.
I am not quite sure what you meant by "don't trash my software buying decisions...", I guess the smiley at the end substitutes body language, which are a bit of a problem with electronic communication.
I have many books on microsoft, enough to constitute a small library, but in cases like this it does not help much when one does not know the name of the function. I google things a lot, quickest.
