That is probably because the inserted object(s) are using one of the TOC styles (i.e., Heading 1, 2 or 3). If so, simply highlight the inserted file text and change the style to something other than a Heading 1, 2 or 3. (By default, the Heading 1, 2 and 3 styles are used in the TOC).
