I suspect that you have blocked saving as a .doc file in your Word options in Word 365(2013).
File > Options > Trust Center > File Block Options
Uncheck the option for saving. See screenshot below.
You may need to re-register your Word 365 so that it becomes the default program to open .docx files. Search this site for reregister Word.
