A Table of Contents is created using a field. If you edit the field results to add hyperlinks to the texts (the page numbers are linked regardless) the update the field, all the changes you have added are lost as the field is recreated. If you want the links to remain, then make sure you don't create or update the TOC until you have finished editing the document, then unlink the field before maing the changes. The TOC then becomes part of the text of the document (and is no longer updatable)
